No, salvation is by grace. The law was for the Jews at the time.
Had he been Christian he would have been a follower of himself. Which goes against that whole not following another, as in God the Father.
Jesus came along so there could be a kinder, gentler deity than the OT God. The God of hellfire, plagues, and worldwide floods wasn't working out as well as planned.
