-DNA's role in heredity was proved by Oswald Avery, who wasn't a biochemist.
-Of the four people credited with working out the shape of the molecule - Franklin, Wilkins, Watson and Crick - none were biochemists.
-Linus Pauling would have worked out the double helical shape of DNA if he hadn't got caught up in the 'red scare' in the US (Pauling WAS a biochemist).
