DNA trivia:

-The molecule was discovered in 1869 by Johann Miescher, who wasn't a biochemist.

-DNA's role in heredity was proved by Oswald Avery, who wasn't a biochemist.

-Of the four people credited with working out the shape of the molecule - Franklin, Wilkins, Watson and Crick - none were biochemists.

-Linus Pauling would have worked out the double helical shape of DNA  if he hadn't got caught up in the 'red scare' in the US (Pauling WAS a biochemist).

-Wilkins, Watson and Crick shared the 1962 Noble Prize in Physiology/Medicine (Franklin didn't, having died four years earlier).

-The Nobel Prize is named for Swedish chemist and inventor of dynamite, Alfred Prize.

Great post.  Interesting information.  Learn something all the time.  Would be cool if we had more posts like this in this thread.

You know what else would be cool?  If you understood what DNA actually is and (more importantly) what it isn't.
