When you flounce out and then talk lots of crap about the place you left knowing your ranting will be seen by those you flounced away from, there's not really a smooth way to slink back in.  The spying is about carrying information back to the new group and/or hoping to find that someone is wishing (no, pining) for your return.

"They want me back.  They know it. So why won't they tell me??"

There are those who will come back and pretend that either their hissy fit didn't happen or this place simply cannot survive without them due to their extreme preciousness.
