True. But there's a sizable percentage of gun owners with a lot of guns (last I checked, 3% of American adults own 50% of America's firearms), and about 40% have not had proper training with said firearms. No stats on those who have had proper training and aren't safe and responsible, though.
I'm a bit less of the "guns are the problem" school of thought and more "guns clearly aren't helping." For instance, though racism and mass shootings didn't start with Trump, the former has become more mainstream since Trump started his campaign by calling Mexicans criminals and rapists, the latter has become more common in recent years, especially since Trump was elected, and, if the shooters' manifestos in the case of at least three incidents this year is any indication, the two may very well be connected. There's a lot of underlying issues that are culminating in violence, and the fact that many of the people are armed clearly can't be helping.
