"Will I Make It Home", By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @brianrrs37 on Twitter)
She suits up
Her badge and gun
Of to her squad car
On another run
You know it's in
Her family's mind
Every single time
Will she make it home?
He straps on
His fire hat
Jumps in
The giant red cab
You know it's in
His family's mind
Every single time
Will he make it home?
She gets on
The Marine transport
Of to
Some far off port
You know it's in
Her family's mind
Every single time
Will she make it home?
Those are risks
We expect
Those are risks
Hero's take
But off to a bar
Of to a movie
Of to school
No one should have to worry
America for far too long
Has been a shooting gallery
Off to shop, of to church
Littered with dead bodies
We expect our heros
To take those risks
But the rest of us
Should not live like this
You know it's in
Everyone's mind
I could get mowed down
Doing the mundane
You know it's in
Everyone's mind
Far too much of the time
Will I make it home?"
