There is a reason for this, and it has nothing to do with economics, gravity, or any other real thing.
it has everything to do with the current economic system in place....
If you look at the more productive period of human history where the economy was based on production/savings, majority weren't wasting their time on questioning the existence of God, instead they were studying science, math and looking for the answers themselves and in the process improving technology.
