It was not a 2-party system during the Civil War. The Democrats were not, necessarily, viewed as being the sole "opposition" party; it was the views of Johnson that earned the ire of the Republicans more than his party affiliation. With Trump, Republicans are willing to overlook his crimes because he is willing to support their views.
Yes, it was a two party system. Republicans and Democrats controlled 100% of the Senate and almost 98% of the House at the time Johnson was impeached.
But all that's largely beside the point (unless the point is how much I depend on Google). The point was made earlier that Republicans are weak because they still support Trump's obvious crimes. A comparison was made with the Republicans during Johnson's impeachment, who were willing to impeach and try Johnson. This is a false comparison. In both cases, you have people favouring impeachment being those people NOT of the President's party. Republicans who don't want Trump impeached are spineless and morally corrupt. Republicans who wanted Johnson impeached were doing politics as usual. Had Lincoln lived and done precisely what Johnson was impeached for (firing Stanton), it's highly unlikely Republicans would have supported impeachment.
