In reality is was typical formula script good guy vs bad guy. But the reason I like it, was because out of the 3 main characters was that the two buff, face guys, defended a "nerd" whom was their brains whom helped them solve cases. 

In the 80s when I grew up, I was bullied. So it was always nice to see a motif of those sticking up for the weak.
