I don't know that I would describe it as a system of beliefs. I would think all atheists would agree with the proposition that there is no god and, as a result, probably affirm some version of materialism... but the reasons why could vary widely from person to person. Other than that, I wouldn't assume there's much of anything that needs to be agreed upon (like some set of doctrines or anything). But, if I'm wrong about all that, it's a big reason why I would prefer to hear it directly from someone like you here. So, am I fairly close or way off the mark in my understanding?

Atheists have one thing in common and that is not having a belief in a god or gods. Other than that we differ in as many ways as you can possibly imagine. There's no system. There's no doctrine. There's no secret handshake (not that we'd tell you if there was
