There are millions of simple answers to complex questions, and nearly all of them are wrong. It was, in point of fact, the simple minded simplicity of the authors which led to the magic books indelible stamp of lowly origin.
Now, maybe they didn't know better and couldn't have known better, so we can give them a mulligan. Seems like an awfully cynically way to conceive of those people, but whatever. You, otoh, can know better.
