That reminds me of an anecdote in Innocents Abroad in which Mark Twain and his friends are viewing the jewel-bedecked, mummified remains of a famous Catholic bishop. Twain remarked that there was enough wealth on that corpse to feed every starving beggar in Rome for the next several years.
