I'll be astonished if this turns into anything but a nothingburger when the report is released. If there really were aliens, most of the gov would be running around with their hair on fire. There isn't much of anything that is classified that some person with a little knowledge about it hasn't gone around running their mouth about it. If anything would be classified, it would be whatever system was used to collect the information. That system might result in a release of our state of the art in our capabilities to an adversary.

If it is turns out to be a somethingburger, 99% chance is the something in the burger is an honest mistake and has to be retracted later, similar to the something that is deemed to be Martian bacteria found in AH84001.

The allure of being the first to find aliens is so strong that even sober people turn into blithering idiots when prospect of this seem to beckon.    We are conditioned to feel our ego swell when it seems the gap between oneself and eternal fame is but a small act of daring, and we are thus tempted to dare even if sober reflection says the dare is the leap of the careless fool.
