We were so poor, Goodwill, Family Dollar and Dollar General were our mall shops.
My feet are completely jacked from wearing ill-fitting cast-off shoes from the Goodwill store or purchased at garage sales. Nothing like showing up at school and having a classmate recognize that I was wearing their old worn-out shoes. My mother was a devout Catholic and insisted on donating money to the local church.
They used to send us back a check at the end of the year, reimbursing her donations. Score one for the local church, I guess.
