Smallish. At just under 100 000 population, there are 81 larger cities in California and 357 larger cities in the US.

And I live in a little town near Chicago that's about 2/3 of the population of Compton and doesn't even legally count as a city. Tell anyone here it's a small city and we'd just be surprised that some people think it's a city.

And, oddly, until fairly recently, I didn't even know Compton was actually a city. I thought it was just another part of L.A., like Watts or Van Nuys.
