I think I asked you once about your perception of acceptance in town. Would this incident change your response?
This recent incident was the only one involving violence. Once, I had a woman who drove by and yelled, "You're a fu**king woman" at me while I was walking on a sidewalk with my 9-year old daughter. (At least she did not think that I was just some ordinary woman!) Somewhat more typical is strangers honking at me (either in approval or disapproval); on a daily basis, people will stop at intersections for excessive amounts of time and gawk at me. Somewhat, perhaps, ironically, when I am wearing a tee with a full skirt, I am ignored almost entirely, except for men in large pickup trucks who go out of their way (so it seems) to stop at intersections so that I may cross in front of them, or strangers (usually, women) who will say "Hello" to me. I always feel good when such happens!
As for where I was at when I got slapped, it was a residential side street with 25 mph (the guy was speeding) with no sidewalks.
