My mother maintains that, if you haven't had kids, you don't know what living is really all about. Paradoxically enough, my (late) father maintained, since my sister and I were in our late teens, that there comes a time in one's life when your children are no longer the most important things in the world. He followed that up, true to his word, by excommunicating first my sister and then me because we were "stressful," allegedly.
Perhaps my own attitude towards having kids is a reflection of my parents' differing opinions on the issue. I'm on the fence, if it happens, great, if not, also great. The other half has two daughters at university in her native Kenya and isn't exactly chomping at the bit for more it seems....I'll see how that cookie crumbles, never say never and all that.
I have a nephew who I'm very fond of and do more than an uncle's usual role I think due to his bio father being an unspeakable savage c*** - he's not on the scene, basically. His favourite toys? Nerf guns, with Star Wars Lego a close second. Pow pow pow pow pow!
