LCDs had other problems as well, like light leakage, viewing angle was limited, limited color gamut.
Eventually, they improved LCD to the point they became acceptable and started to be used for desktops and TVs.
Plasma TVs was a nice one as well.
A fun thing to do is see the effect of a magnet on the electron beam.
