Do you think it's possible you are mistaking ignorance for a lack of intelligent?
Aristotle was also ignorant of a lot of things, but still a genius imo. Same for Plato, a great philosopher, but not a wonderful natural scientist . Possibly because they each lived in a pre scientific age.
No amount of education in itself can make a person smart. A person can learn to use the intelligence they have perhaps more effectively and end up a bit less ignorant. Ironically, it tends to be the intelligent and educated person who grasp the depth of his/her ignorance. The truly ignorant often revel in their ignorance. EG creationists and people like that Tucker Carson dropkick.
I've met lawyers and doctors who aren't all that bright. I've learned over the years that one doesn't need more than an average intelligence to earn most undergraduate degrees. One needs motivation, focus and determination. Of course a significant number seem to simply cheat.
