I'm 36 and I've been smoking since I was 19. I've cut it back to 1 1/2 packs per week in the last year and as much as I do still enjoy it, I think I'm ready to let it go.
Wow. The last guy I knew who quit smoking had smoked for 15 years or so. He decided to go cold turkey. It wasn't fun for him.
Please don't go cold unless you've worked down to 1-2 cigs a day.

If you drank heavily for 10 years, you'd find quitting alcohol would take on the same importance as quitting cigs. Withdrawal from heavy alcoholism can kill if one goes cold turkey in that situation.

Any of you smoke/quit cigarettes? (No judgement of course.)
I lived through one of my brothers quitting. Guy was constantly angry and a total monster for a week. Fucker even attacked me, pissed off at my very presence in the commons room (for the record, I got him high a few times that week when I saw he was suffering, so needless to say I was pissed to be the object of attack midweek).
Just don't be a prick when you quit. Realize that everything feels nasty and annoying because of withdrawal, nothing else.

Good luck. If you find this doesn't work out, I'd like to interest you into migrating from incinerating (smoking) to at least patches, gum or vaporizers. Then you can at least offset the 'sucking air out of the oxygen tank [because statistics is a bitch]' problem forever.
