I don't take personal offense to ways of thinking that differ from my own. I am a former agnostic. I became a Christian at 31 years of age - so most of my life I was an unbeliever. It's not like this way of thinking is completely foreign to me - I understand unbelief.
Yes, that is a completely unsubstantiated claim.
The only source for this event, is in the Bible. And it is known, the Gospels were written decades or more after the alleged events, by unknown authors, who were not themselves eyewitnesses. Add to that, the fact that the earliest fragment of the Bible (P52), which is no older than the first half of the 2nd century.
So, all we have is, at best, is hearsay of hearsay.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
