RE: Can America ever truly pay for its sins?

All well and good, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the us -at present-. Remember, the current political dispute in the us is between the dying minority cohort that sees no evil and the younger and living and majority cohort that both sees evil, and knows how we might do better. Dont get me wrong, better..in that context, can still be pretty shitty for someone.
Does it ever occur to you, winter, that the people you address here, for example.... have all the same reservations about their grandfathers as you might? Here's another fun question to ponder. Do you think I hauled a rifle all over nothereistan for america..or for the people of nothereistan? It wasnt exactly like the islamist in front of me had a weapon that could reach all the way back to bell florida.......they werent killing americans.....
I guess it;s a complicated thing. As a country, we've been on both sides of a given conflict (moral or military..if there's a difference). Our own conflict, today, seems to amount to whether or not we want to be guided by the better angels of our nature, or our most base and absurd insecurities. Weird thing for a country like us to feel insecure, don't you think? We're so goddamned mighty we toppled your kingdom of god in less than a generation....and, as you yourself have often contended, completely subjugated even the worst of its agents. Guys got his work cut out for him dealing with us whether he has to deal with the bigots, or the rest of us. We're iron chariot types...and I suppose he's always struggled with us. Hey..wait a minute...thats how the jews came to be!
Isn't it amusing that for the outsized presence of american bigotry in your own mind, those of us who are not a part of that are even more difficult adversaries to overcome? That we're unappealable, unpersuadable, inhuman...by standards that amount to capitulation to murderous islamism....even? That used to be our jam. The silly pretenses you yourself belive in used to motivate us, and the worst of us, even more than they do now...but it turns out that people like that, and like you, are the least of us? The most uncommited. The quickest to turn. The eager coconspirators to what would ultimately end us but will not..because every single one of you is so unbelievably goddamned stupid and incompetent.
