That's great and something to be proud of.  So, a millennium later?  No rebound?  Still vulnerable to outside invaders?  Yeah. That's what I've been saying.  How's it working out for you?

When empires collapse, they usually become "vassals" of the successful powers around; the Muslims became vassals of the west in our time; especially the Arab countries, each western superpower has its vassals around the Middle East; and when one of the vassals "revolt" or "change loyalty" they get butchered, like Iraq during Saddam's reign.

It's not anybody else's fault that islamic rulers were stupid enough to butcher Chinggis' trade envoys.  Oh and the Mongols didn't become enamoured with killing for killing's sake until, guess what, they became muslims.

I wouldn't say "Muslim(s)" but a single "Muslim" ruler did that, I would understand though if Mongols butchered eastern Muslims only, but they didn't stop there and kept butchering the whole world.

Genghis Khan was a savage butcher all along. His dynasty even boiled Koreans alive !
