Hello y’all
Name’s Travis, but you can call me Bloody, Boxxy, whatever else, I get lots of nicknames and haven’t really got one to stick to for very long. Kinda hoping this one stays. Anyway, I’m a 30-year-old autistic guy, amateur artist and gamer who makes solar panels for a living, and who just happens to be an atheist.
With the rise of things like discord servers and Twitter, etc. I’ve been longing for more long form discussions of old message board days. However, I’ve only ever frequented gaming focused sites, and hadn’t really considered joining one based on religion or lack thereof before, despite having been atheist pretty much my whole life.
Growing up in New England for most of my life, my parents have been pretty liberal and never really strict. My siblings and I were made to attend church for much of our childhood, but much like things like Santa or the Easter bunny, I kinda figured early on just by logistics that none of it was very realistic and didn’t put much stock into any of what they taught us. My older brother and I spent many Sunday afternoons drawing mustaches on people on the pamphlets waiting for it to just end already. My father came from a slightly more religious family, French Canadian ancestry and those who apparently fled the Spanish Inquisition, so I’m not really sure how that works out, but my mother convinced him that none of the rest of us were interested in attending anymore. These days he still goes sometimes, unless there’s a game on tv or something more important to do.
Something that has interested me more about the topic in recent years has been some of the political aspect, though I understand that’s a bit heavy. I’ve gone through a lot of personal changes over the past decade, which has changed my views on many different things, but suffice it to say I’m just kind of trying to get by now, doing my own thing and realizing life is too short to get upset and into needless arguments with everyone. Perhaps it’s a bit cynical, but I feel much more relaxed these days at least. Even so, atheism itself is still fun for me to talk about with others and interesting to learn others’ perspectives on it, so hoping I’ll make some new friends here.
As I said, I’m an autist, artist, gamer, kind of a loser still living with my folks but we’re all making ends meet in a bit of a unique situation. Trying to really get my art off the ground, but I’m glad to have time to do it at all. Kind of making games as a hobby too, and hoping to release something small for free by Valentine’s. Nice to meet you all.
