The whole church thing was a huge blow to us, as our business was explicitly predicated on religiously motivated consumers prior to 2016. They were local allies. They were carbon nuetral allies. They were anti-globalists.....and now....... I say this with bit of shame - but I've explained to The Wife that I will never, until the day I day, be able to shake the misgivings I have now based on the clear and consequential actions of a market demographic I once considered my easy niche.
I don't even want their business..anymore. That's a far cry from a business plan I had that would make local congregations stronger. I'm sitting here right now wondering what the premium might be on non insurrectionist, local, organic produce. What does the difference look like in dollars and cents?
Recent events have made me seriously relfect on the degree to which my business depends on Chinese sourcing. I also have tried to keep international politics out of work but that partition is quickly eroding.
I think the most serious issue - and the greatest threat to democracy - in American politics is that you don’t have any liberals of consequence. You’ve got Bernie and AOC who are closer to being liberals than any of their compatriots, but even they aren’t quite there. Moderate democrats are centre-right. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party are centre-left.
In real-world terms, you’ve saddled yourselves with a political right, a right-leaning centre, and an ineffectual left-leaning centre.
This doesn’t really bode well for either effective governance or the preservation of political liberty.
Good luck.
