I'm a lifelong nonreligious person who considers himself an existentialist rather than an atheist. I've enjoyed the writings of various New Atheist figures like Dawkins and Dennett, but I find that they're very selective in their skepticism. We should be as critical of science and the tendency to systematize and objectify humanity, as we are of religion.
