Essential differences like what, the difference between what a person does and doesn't believe, and what they do and do not claim to know? IDK, seems razor sharp to me.
Most of these guys don't believe in god, but wouldn't claim to know that there wasn't one. I also don't believe in gods..but do claim to know that there aren't any. What criticism is it that you think agnostics are trying to avoid that I, Not An Agnostic but definitely an atheist, would be super happy to address?
I have encountered these atheists -- they place the Christian or Islamic God in the same category as the FSM, IPUs, ISM, etc., possible, yet "very, very, very improbable". As for me, I would just be in the "very improbable" category.
