Just read “The Last Hippie,” an Oliver Sacks essay about a man who lost the ability to create new memories sometime in the late sixties, (and not only lost his sight, but somehow managed to forget even his own blindness.) At the climax of the piece, Oliver takes him to a Grateful Dead show at Madison Square Garden. He loved it, even as he somehow managed to see Jerry with an Afro, a tombstone behind one of the drum set (presumably Bill Kreutzmann’s and not Mickey Hart’s), and the long dead Pigpen. This is that show:
He ends up forgetting the concert, but managed to remember Picasso Moon (a very late song of theirs, released well after he lost the ability to form new memories.)
