I have worked in IT for 30 years, have a BS in Computer Science and a MBA from the University of Iowa. In my opinion, computer systems of all sizes & stripes are virtually impossible, if not impossible, to break into if the proper precautions & subsystems are put into place. (When was the last time that Google itself was "hacked"?) What hackers amount to are unpaid beta testers; they serve to improve the security of the systems that they are trying to exploit. Modem day exploits are much more often than not due to some sloppy systems administrator or "inside" job.
