No, running for President - or any other office - doesn’t mean staying out of jail. It affords no legal protection against being indicted, arrested, tried, convicted, or imprisoned.
The only help running will give him is to raise money to help cover his legal fees.

It doesn't make sense to spend the last two years just investigating someone, especially, when that investigation is publicly known. As for Trump are there even any active grand juries still around? And, so, no, his declaration of his candidacy for President will probably prevent his prosecution until he is, finally, out of office for good.
Time will tell, of course.
