Well I don't have a conscience and I still feel guilty. I know that doesn't make sense. It's like I feel guilty for not having a conscience.
You're right; it doesn't make sense.
But then people are infinitely complex, so it's not strange to have paradoxes built in.
Becoming aware of them is good.
