His stance is more a result of his extreme anti-abortion views. He's holding up the confirmations until the Pentagon stops funding travel for female servicemembers to obtain abortions in legal states. Not only is his stance impacting our readiness by depleting leadership without replacements, if he were to get his way, that too would damage readiness by forcing female servicemembers to term if they cannot personally afford such travel and accomodations.
Many of his fellow Republicans are very upset with him for this. It's not so much partisanship as it is holding the military hostage for the sake of his personal misogyny.
As a veteran, I find his blockade here despicable -- no matter its motivation.
Fair - it's more of a separation clause issue at its core. Still he's pulling this to cater to the GOP base.
