Even as late as the Christian era, they STILL believed in the 4 pillars of the Earth. It was Irenaeus's justification for the 4 Gospels. "Just as there are 4 winds, and 4 pillars the earth stands on ... so there are 4 gospels." LMAO
The Flammarion engraving never appeared until the 1880's. It cannot be attributed to the ancient Hebrews, (LOLOL) or even in the German Renaissance.
