White smoke from the US Congress. The GOP elected a speaker.
From the NYT blog:
"For years, Republicans worked to make Speaker Nancy Pelosi a political albatross for swing seat Democrats with varying degrees of success. Now Democrats are going to try to turn the tables and make Johnson and his record an anchor for Republicans in tough districts."
All republicans backed Johnson, finally showing unity after three weeks of bickering. They found their Trump minion.
The guy is hard right, a Jim Jordan wannabe, a Christo-fascist. Seems perfect for today's GOP.
The NYT is having some fun with it:
"Mr. Johnson’s hallmark in Congress has been combining his hard-line views with a gentle style. He emerged at a moment when members of the conference were worn down and ready to accept someone who they did not view as an obvious choice. Instead, he passed a lowered bar: They view him as someone sufficiently conservative and who they do not personally despise."
