The People of Light vs The People of Darkness

The Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has started quoting the bible by saying on October 7th:
 
“We are the people of light, they are the people of darkness—and light shall triumph over darkness,” + “Our war against Hamas is a test for all of humanity it is a struggle between the axis of evil of Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas, and the axis of freedom and progress.” +  “It is now a time to come together for one purpose to storm ahead to achieve victory in joint with joint forces and a profound belief in justice, a profound belief in the eternity of the Jewish people. We shall realize the prophecy of Isaiah,”

This goes against some very basic spiritual principles the way I understand it. Darkness is merely the absence of light. And when you turn up the light, darkness is gone. There are no “Battle between the forces of light and forces of darkness”. That’s not an established scientific of philosophical fact of course. Rather it’s the understanding that a have as a result of studying spirituality in the last 20 years or so.
 
One thing that truly exists both within us and in the world, is the competition between ego-minded attitudes and more higher-self-centered attitudes (these are spiritual concepts). To simplify we can say that there is always this competition between fear-based attitudes and love-based attitudes (again these are my own conclusions).
 
What this means in practical terms is not so complicated. Let’s simplify the recent events in Israel and restrict them to what happened Saturday October 7th 2023. There are two possible responses to that:
1) You move in with brute force and punish the ones who did this. But wait. Isn’t that what George W. Bush did in September 11th 2001? What happened after that? What did America receive in return for all these policies? Is the US safer now than it was then?
 
Second option (and that’s what I define as “the way of love instead of the way of fear): You can start asking deeper questions:
a) Why is it that almost every country that is a direct or close neighbor to Israel are like no-man’s lands now? Why is it that all their neighbors are complete rogue states at best? And I am asking this from a historical perspective. Before Israel came to the region in the 1950’s these were not advanced nations, but these were still decent places where you could settle and raise a family. And that includes places like Afghanistan. In the 60’s The Hippies loved to travel to all those places. So what happened? Is it religion? That religion exists since the 6th century. So it’s not religion. What happened there?
b) What are we (Israelis) doing in the areas that are “Palestinian” according to international law? People who have no security, no dignity, and no plans for the future will join terrorist organizations. Hopeless people do hopeless things.
Ex: That area called Gaza + West-Bank are areas that rely (mostly) on European aid and all this infrastructure that is being bombed there was once being built with European funds. So how is this working?
 
- So I won’t go into deeper debates. But this is not “light vs. darkness” this is Ego vs Ego. “My land - your land / my God - your God / My Holy Site – Your Holy Site”.
