Jokes aside, to be a liberal christian is to be caught between ideologies that make antithetical assertions. You will not find socially progressive views in magic book. Christ does not and will not respect and accept behavior and opinions different from his divine rule. An all powerful dictatorship is as far from democracy as can be imagined.
It's not that a person cant be a liberal christian, we're good at doing things wrong...and for this much, perhaps we should be thankful.
I've never had a problem with most of the so-called 'cherry picking Christians'. There seem to be plenty of people who only like the bits about helping the poor, feeding the hungry, etc, and reject things like the horrors of eternal damnation and divine vengeance.
If they go down that road but continue to call themselves 'Christians' and wave the Bible about, I'm good.
