Long ago, we stopped doing gifts.
Most of us send cards with donation amounts to our favorite non-profits.
My sisters are kitty and bunny lovers. We send donations in their names to those organizations.
I wouldn't be caught dead, out "Christmas shopping" I do think about a special gift for my parents, pretty much all year
I have in mind what my family might enjoy, (a lot), throughout the year.
If I see something (especially art in the La Jolla or Laguna art festivals), I'll buy it as we see it through the year for my parents or family.
I never go "Christmas shopping", (unless I happen upon especially great carol collections at Kings or other English cathedrals, ... on line ... I would buy them for everyone.)

Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell
