Queer and mysterious, Mr. Frodo. I picked up some Parmigiano Reggiano at Whole Foods and stopped by Trader Joe's on the way home. TJ's had Parmigiano Reggiano and something labeled Parmesan Reggiano. Both under the Trader Joe name, both from Italy, and both marked with the PDO. I don't understand why they would have a PDO for the latter cheese as Parmesan Reggiano isn't a registered cheese type, so it's whatever some Italian cheese maker wanted it to be. It's substantially cheaper than real Parmigiano Reggiano, and my taste buds aren't overly adept anyway, so I may try it.
