Putting it in my mouth
RE: Putting it in my mouth
Sloppy joes. This was made with Aldi's store brand in a can. For a buck, there are worse options. A bit too much liquid for a pound of ground beef, but that's easily fixed. I would have liked to add more Worcestershire sauce, but the mix had too much liquid as it was. For a buck, I can imagine worse bases to start from. I haven't found one yet that has the taste that I like.

Codfish, spinach and baked potatoes. Fish is thawing, dinner at 6 PM. I gave up trying to grill codfish, it's going in a pan. I'm not grilling anything, anyway. It pissed down almost two inches of rain here today. Not complaining- I'd love to see the aquifers filled to the seams with water. Just ain't gonna stand in it for a piece of fish. If it was a steak day, I might rig something. Steak days are pretty rare, though.

Yule party tonight.  This is what was on our table (which is, to everyone's amazement, not reduced to a pile of splinters on the floor):
  • Five kinds of cheese plus assorted crackers
  • Rugelach (apricot, currant and walnut filling in a cream cheese dough)
  • Tempura shrimp
  • Deviled eggs (flavoured with onion, garlic, hot mustard, smoked paprika, and Chinese black bean chili oil)
  • Pork skewers from a Filipino take-out place
  • Crab Rangoon
  • Curry beef puffs
  • Antipasto, pickles and cherry tomatoes
  • Chocolates
  • Mead!

Cheese ravioli in pumpkin and butternut squash pasta sauce with freshly grated Parmesan.

This is a seasonal item at Aldi. Normally $4 a jar, they were clearing it out at a buck a jar. It's one of my favorites.

Queer and mysterious, Mr. Frodo. I picked up some Parmigiano Reggiano at Whole Foods and stopped by Trader Joe's on the way home. TJ's had Parmigiano Reggiano and something labeled Parmesan Reggiano. Both under the Trader Joe name, both from Italy, and both marked with the PDO. I don't understand why they would have a PDO for the latter cheese as Parmesan Reggiano isn't a registered cheese type, so it's whatever some Italian cheese maker wanted it to be. It's substantially cheaper than real Parmigiano Reggiano, and my taste buds aren't overly adept anyway, so I may try it.

This is the last time I buy a DiGiorno pizza. They charge plenty and then they don't include a piece of cardboard in the box. How fucking cheap can you be?
