Ghosts may have planted the first seeds of later skepticisim in me. I think I was in maybe 4th grade when I encountered some children agitated over something they were seeing in our local abandoned house. The front door was open, and you could see a pitcher floating in mid-air!
The other kids were practically hysterical over it, but I thought it was awfully still for something that seemed to be hovering, and took a closer look. It turns out it was sitting on a shelf parallel to and the same color as a horizontal stripe on the wall behind it. It has been my experience ever since that the paranormal ceases being paranormal if you look at it closely enough.
