Can there be New Ways of Understanding and Practicing Ancient Religious Teachings?

RE: Can there be New Ways of Understanding and Practicing Ancient Religious Teachings?
Modern Christianity is shit. I would have to imagine it's always been a weird religion, attracting misfit-type people since the beginning. But its modern incarnation really makes you think Christianity is some kind of mental illness. I don't care (very much) that people like Joel Osteen have made more money than they know what to do with, by telling people what they want to hear. I don't approve of it, but that kind of shit has always been happening. What bothers me, is that there doesn't seem to be any actual authenticity to any of this stuff. It's just "positive thinking" (barf) and telling people they will have what they want, no matter what. God does not care if you get what you want, in fact He would prefer if you didn't.
