I mean, these loons aren’t thinking this through. Republicans are in the minority in both houses of the state legislature, and they want to give the legislature the power to elect senators.

Of course there's a difference. Step back from the this being a Washington state issue. It's far more complex than numbers (my home in the USA is in Washington, I am very familiar with these nutbars and what they're up to). There is an active effort to split most of the GOP controlled areas from the state. In addition, this Supreme court gutted part of the 14th amendment, what's to stop them from doing the same to the 17th?
When the courts, state legislatures, and Governor's seats are dominated by a minority party who has no problem with lawlessness, do you really think that the Constitution and checks and balances are going to get in their way of the national GOP for long?
The Republicans are so hell bent on gaining power and control, especially the Christian Nationalists among them, that it would not surprise me that they will pull anything to accomplish their fascist dream. We should all keep watch on other states that will have upcoming GOP conventions to see if they will openly have similar language to Washington state's GOP.
