The thing with consciousness is that it is outside known physics. There is absolutely no known mechanism by which consciousness emerges from the processes of the brain or any other matter. Yet there is a ton of evidence which strongly suggests that it does. That isn't evidence for life after death but evidence that there is something fundamental about how the universe works that we don't begin to understand. Consciousness might be independent of the brain in some dualistic way but Occam's Razor suggests it is more likely a product of it in a way we don't currently understand.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
