With the Conclave happening, I’m reminded of the one time I actually got to see Leonard Cohen live. In the lead up to “Ain’t no cure for Love”, he did this little spiel and he actually mentioned being disappointed (almost certainly facetiously, given that he’s a Montreal Jew* who was damn near 80 at the time) that he didn’t stand a chance in the papal elections that had just happened. I can’t find the version from the concert I went to, but here’s one from the same month:
