amkerman does make a few decent points. It is possible to hold a discussion with someone who holds opposite points of view, it need not always end in a winner and a loser, but rather a civil discussion about what 'could be'. In all honesty, both amkerman and everyone else is making assumptions about the power of our knowledge asserted through consciousness. A realist neglects what is past themselves - they only see what knowledge they have now and assert that anything beyond said knowledge is false or non-existent. A progressive or futurist can see beyond our current knowledge and assume things beyond the consciousness. Regardless, these are both assumptions about what exists outside of our knowledge. It cannot be proven, but it is interesting to talk about and especially to think about.
