I disagree with your sentiments Bgood. The parts I have bolded are contra to what I understand the Buddha to have taught.
I think I would more precisely say that the buddhadharma is progressive for the individual or mentally evolutionary for the determined student. Therefore if it is capable of opening a person's mind and heart, even just a wee bit, that's a little progress for mankind too, since we are all interdependent and have family and friends we care for. As you can probably tell I'm not a fundamentalist, I have a wide range of interests and also have a 'nostalgic' affinity for Greek philosophy and history as well. But I respect your opinions and I would urge you to look deeper into 'buddha's eyes' yourself. I frequently find bliss and unbelievable epiphanies there!
