Well there you go, I stand corrected 
I think one of the things for me is I like getting my hands dirty when I'm gardening, I love the smell of the earth, I love the feel of it. From what you just posted there's obviously nothing wrong with hydro grown veg, but IMO you just can't beat digging into the soil. It's a very grounding experience (no pun intended)
