There are a number of important differences between them. Creationism argues religiously in favour of the Judeo-Christian deity, whereas Intelligent Design argues scientifically for no deity whatsoever. Creationism argues for the truth of the religious narrative in Genesis (under a literal interpretation in some cases, or an allegorical interpretation in others), whereas Intelligent Design has nothing to say about any religious texts; Intelligent Design drops us off at the necessity for an intelligent designer but has nothing to say about who or what that designer is, leaving it to metaphysicians and theologians to argue over. Creationism attempts to make scientific discoveries fit and support its religious convictions, whereas Intelligent Design has no religious convictions at all; while Creationism is friendly to only certain religious convictions, Intelligent Design is home to people of various religious convictions or no religious convictions whatsoever (e.g., deists). Proponents of Creationism want to have it taught in the public education system, whereas proponents of Intelligent Design are against such a curriculum; proponents of Intelligent Design want scientific criticisms of modern Darwinian evolution taught in schools but uphold banning Creationism being taught.
And the list goes on...
