Given their history and the beliefs they spout neither Islam or the Quran deserve any respect.

I agree that we shouldn't fuel religious nonsense by allowing a holy book any extra respect, it doesn't improve anything by going around burning them. The best way to kick development off is education, however no proper education system can be put into place until the extremist views are all pushed out.
