If you're having a lot of trouble, just message an admin or moderator and we'll be happy to help you. If you happen to be responding to a very long post, I find it's helpful to create my post in Microsoft Word or the like first and then copy the whole thing when I'm done into the reply box. This way I can review all of my formatting and quoting tags.
Huh? Why go to the trouble of firing up Word and copy/pasting everything around when clicking the "Preview Post" button shows you everything you could want for editing a post?
